Welcome back beauties for another episode of Cuppa&Chat!! Oh and Happy New Year!! This is our first episode for 2020, how exciting to be in a new decade!!

This time we have the fabulous Kayleigh from The88AndFriends. After chatting about anxiety, Kayleigh wrote this lovley piece sharing how her anxiety has effected her and how she’s overcome overthinking every single situation. I think we can all relate with her on this right?! Let’s take a look…

Anxiety and Self Esteem – Anxiety used to leave me in a near constant state of self doubt and when you start to doubt your decisions you doubt your values and on and on until you doubt everything in your life! That’s when I chose to take control!
I knew I couldn’t go on living like that and I knew it would only get worse.
At first I tried to break down my self doubt. If I made the wrong decision what was the worse that would happen?
I decided that if I got it right it would help me build confidence in my own abilities and if it turned out badly I’d learn something.

My self doubt, caused by anxiety, has tripped me up so many times.
Back when I instructed for a living I was doing my assessment to teach abseiling. My coach put me forward for it straight away, said it would be an easy pass and how I’d stood out from the rest of my team…I failed…in fact I failed three times. Why? Because I’d let myself get in my head.
Self doubt is a horrible thing. No matter how much reassurance people give you, it won’t work until you believe in yourself.
The worse thing about it is that you are the person standing in your own way. It makes you feel like a failure, it certainly did with me.

Another symptom I cope with is the extremely high standards I set for myself. Again, I’m working against myself as I know through my training that an important part of goal setting is to make them realistic.
It isn’t all doom and gloom though! I’ve worked through it and I think anyone can, my next major test will be my driving test.
My mantra for this (mantras for anything really work for me) is ‘They won’t ask me to do anything I haven’t done before’ wish me luck – K xxx

  1. She’s amazing! I WISH I had the confidence to do that. She looks absolutely stunningly confident and beautiful.
I really love these posts you do, I feel like I’m at a coffee morning meeting new people. Can’t wait for the next one ?

    1. She’s incredible isnt she!!!!
Oh I’m soooo glad 😀 😀 😀 This is the exact feeling I was hoping for for my readers!!!

  2. I 100% relate to having high standards for myself. In a way, it is good to have but it’s also the source for guilt and not feeling worthy. Definitely a process but you can get through it.
